Pleasanton is pleased to announce that the Pleasanton Library is looking for 25 individuals or groups to create and display an altar in the special community exhibition: Dia de Los Muertos: Honoring the Dead, which will be on display at the Library on Saturday, October 31, 2015 and Sunday, November 1, 2015.
Dia de los Muertos is a traditional Meso-American holiday dedicated to the ancestors; it honors both death and the cycle of life. In Mexico, neighbors gather in local cemeteries to share food, music, and fun with their extended community, both living and departed. The celebration acknowledges that we still have a relationship with our ancestors and loved ones that have passed away.
This is an opportunity to pay homage to deceased loved ones – family, friends or ancestors- by creating a personal altar that will be displayed in the Pleasanton Library’s Large Meeting Room.
Applications for altars are available at the Adult Reference Desk. The application must be turned in no later than Wednesday, October 28, 2015. Altar space is reserved on a first come, first serve basis.
Public viewing of altars will be held:
Saturday, October 31 from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sunday, November 1, from 1:00-4:30 pm.
This program is free and open to the public. For more information call 925 931-3400 EXT. 4, orr visit the library’s website at: www.pleasantonlibrary.org
